Mental Health

Mosaic PCN has developed and continues to expand this initiative in order to address the common mental health issues in the Mosaic area.  Common issues include new immigrant and refugee anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder related to torture and other experiences in their home country, and high rates of alcohol addiction and domestic abuse among several populations within Mosaic PCN.  Additionally, many of the mental health issues experienced by Mosaic patients stem from underlying socioeconomic issues, such as living with low-income.  Mosaic believes it is important to provide adequate and accessible social work and counselling resources to address these issues.

As part of expanding this initiative, Mosaic PCN is introducing a culture-sensitive Mental Health Specialist and will specialize in the mental health needs specific to refugees in the Mosaic community.

Purpose:

Mosaic PCN's goal for this initiative is to ensure the provision of timely and comprehensive mental health care to the Mosaic community members.  This includes addressing mental health issues common to the Mosaic area.  To achieve this, social work clinicians are currently working within member physicians' offices to provide necessary mental health care services. Mosaic PCN's program has clinicians working in all the Mosaic PCN clinics (see Clinics for a list and contacts) and provides off-site services to physicians and community members, as well as the services offered in member physicians' clinics.

Social Work Clinicians:

Social Work Clinicians currently work within physician offices and at the Mosaic Primary Care Clinic providing consultations to patients in need.  They also link patients to community resources and programs as part of their psychosocial assessments.  Speak with your physician about accessing these services.

Mosaic PCN is looking to expand this program by adding a culturally sensitive mental health program.  This program involves hiring a chartered psychologist who speaks Punjabi and/or Urdu and another mental health counsellor with different language skills and cultural expertise/sensitivity.
