This program is a collaboration between Mosaic PCN and the Ronald McDonald House Charities. The mobile unit will initially be used to increase access to Mosaic PCN’s educational expertise, advertise the PCN’s various clinics, do a small amount of active prevention (e.g. application of Fluoride varnish to children’s teeth), and provide eligibility screening for Mosaic’s various health care services.
It is hoped that this service will remove some barriers to health care and information that are common in Mosaic's communities. The coordinator of the program will determine locations that would benefit from the mobile unit's services (e.g. shopping malls, religious buildings and schools) and determine the key issues for informational programs. There are already a number of organizations, including schools, that want to partner with this initiative once it is operational. Although a schedule has not yet been created, staff for the mobile unit will typically include the dental hygienist, a dietitian, a nurse and a mental health counsellor.
The mobile unit will focus on services and information for pregnant women and community members under 25 years of age. The staff on the mobile unit will also provide information about Mosaic PCN's various clinics and how to access them.
