Smoking is a recognized problem for the general population and women of childbearing age in the Mosaic area. In response, Mosaic PCN offers two types of group sessions which aim to reduce this issue and support people while they quit smoking.
Mosaic Tobacco Cessation Classes
Mosaic PCN offers FREE group sessions to support people as they quit smoking. Group tobacco cessation programs have been shown to be more effective than one-on-one counselling, so Mosaic's classes are four 1-hour group sessions. These classes are vailable to any patient of a Mosaic member physician (see Physicians for a complete list), by physician referral. Consult your physician for more information.
TRACY Program
Mosaic PCN also offers a special program in collaboration with Alberta Health Services - Tobacco Reduction in the Childbearing Years (TRACY) - exclusively for pregnant women or new moms. TRACY addresses and manages the fetal risks of smoking, tobacco use, and nicotine exposure, by helping women quit smoking. Mosaic PCN membership is not required; anyone can self-refer to the free TRACY program, or talk to your physician.
