Prevention and Promotion

At Mosaic, prevention and promotion focus primarily on two areas: child and youth obesity, and poor oral hygiene.  These topics represent common preventable health issues within Mosaic’s boundaries.  This initiative focuses on giving Mosaic community members health care and knowledge about prevention and promotion.  It also provides professional development programs for member physicians regarding prevention and promotion strategies.

Services:

Mosaic PCN offers Tobacco Cessation classes to both general community members and women of childbearing age.  Soon Mosaic will be introducing a mobile unit, funded largely by Ronald McDonald House Charities.  This unit will be used to provide primary care including prevention and promotion education at various community and cultural centres.

Mosaic also offers a Seniors' Fall Risk Assessment program.  The Chronic Disease Management Nursing Team has been trained in collaboration with the Calgary Falls Program to screen seniors in physicians' offices for risk of falling.  To date, the physicians request the screening or make a referral for screening.  If you are worried about yourself or an elderly family member, consult your physician about an assessment.
