Women's Health

Mosaic PCN is dedicated to supporting women’s health, including pregnancy and perinatal care for its community members.  Information received from obstetritians at the Peter Lougheed Centre (PLC) has shown that it is surprisingly common for women to have little or no prenatal care before going to the PLC for delivery.  This is an alarming fact and can be dangerous for both the mother and the baby.  Therefore, Mosaic PCN offers its pregnancy and perinatal programs as a large part of the overall Women's Health initiative.

Services:

Mosaic PCN, through its Women's Clinic, offers prenatal care and support, and woman-focused primary care to women in the Mosaic community with or without a family physician.  The Women's Clinic includes a low-risk maternity group, a prenatal and women's health dietitian, the Centering Pregnancy program, and Nurse Practitioners.  Call the Women's Clinic for an appointment or to learn more about the services they offer:

Nurse Practitioners:

The Nurse Practitioners provide services to the PLC in the labour and delivery department 7 days a week.  They assist with patient discharge and education for low risk obstetrical patients.  The Nurse Pratitioners also help mothers without a family physician to arrange a follow-up Well-Baby appointment for the baby after discharge and to direct these women to the Mosaic Primary Care Clinic (MPCC).  The Nurse Practitioners work in the MPCC several days a week providing Well Baby checks for infants who do not have a family physician when they are discharged from the PLC.  If you do not have a family physician and your new baby has not had his/her check-up, call the Women's Clinic or the MPCC to schedule an appointment.

Dietitian:

The Prenatal and Women's Health Dietitian provides individual nutrition assessments for pregnant or postnatal women and women with weight issues.  The dietitian also offers group prenatal nutrition sessions twice a week for a maximum of 5 participants.  These sessions take place either at Sunridge Galleries or at the MPCC.  Every few weeks, the dietitian offers a session with an interpreter depending on language demand and has started to deliver sessions at locations within the community (e.g. at a local Sikh temple) in an effort to reduce barriers for people accessing this information.  To meet with the Women's Health Dietitian or to attend one of these classes, call the Women's Clinic at 403-250-5066.
